GREEN WOODWORK

Is the use of freshly felled timber (the wood is still 'green') to produce useful and interesting items/artifacts. Wood is locally sourced from sweet chestnut, ash, hornbeam and hazel coppice so avoiding transport costs, pollution and felling of tropical rainforest. Hand tools are used, supplied by us, and available to purchase. So with these and simple devices such as the shave horse and pole lathe, discover the pleasure to be had from:

Courses Register

These cost £100 per day weekdays, and £125 per day weekends with a maximum of two people per day. Children should be aged 11+. Starting at 10am and ending at 5pm this price includes copious supplies of tea, coffee, cold drinks and any basic materials. Lunches can be provided at £5 per person. Working on a one to one basis - you get total undivided attention to make the most of your day

Green Woodworking

Please be realistic about your skill levels and ability. If you have never had any woodworking experience or have never used hand tools before the Introduction to Green Woodwork is a good starting point. If you are bitten by the bug you can always come again

Remember - green woodworking is an outdoor activity so please wear appropriate clothing.

Stool making

A two day course to make a stool from green wood. The first day will be spent developing your green woodworking techniques and shaving or turning the legs. The stool could be rustic and made from one log in which case the cost of raw materials is included in the course. If you wish to choose a different piece of wood from our timber store for your stool top for a more refined and elegant appearance there will be an additional charge of £10-20 depending on size and type of wood. The second day of your course will be booked for two months later to allow your legs to fully dry out. You will then re-turn the ends of the legs to round, prepare your stool top, drill the leg holes, assemble and finish your stool.

for 2 day course Weekday - £200 per person. Weekend - £250 per person. Lunch - £10 per person.

Tools & Sharpening

This is a specialist 1 day course where you can learn the art of making handles for axes, hammers, chisels, drawknives etc. Learn how to make a mallet or a club. Bring some old tools and discover how to obtain that razor sharp edge.

Spooncarving

This one day course is an introduction to spooncarving. You will be using timbers suitable for culinary use such as sycamore, cherry and birch. Tools we will be using are axes, drawknives and a variety of spokeshaves, gouges, curved and hooked knives. You will have the opportunity to make a spoon, spatula, fork, scoop, salad servers or pot scraper or as many of these as you have the ability to make !

Introduction to green woodwork

A one day course giving a good practical taste of all the different processes. You will be supplied with all the basic raw materials and a chance to try your hand with a variety of different tools - froe, axes, drawknife, gouges. At the end of the course the treen you've made is yours to take home.
